Trunk / Liftgate: Description and Operation
A. General
The trunk lid remote control includes a remote controlled unlocking feature for the trunk lid. This function can be actuated with a switch in the passenger compartment or by pressing the button twice on the infrared remote central locking (IRCL). This auxiliary function for the trunk lid can be switched off mechanically in the same manner as previously by turning the key to the 90° position and then removing. Unintentional actuation while driving is prevented by checking the speed signal.
After actuating the trunk lid remote control function the vehicle is unlocked centrally and the trunk lock is then opened by an actuator retracting the locking pawl. This causes the retractable trunk lid grip to extend so that the trunk lid can be opened easily. It is not possible to open the trunk lid with the switch in the passenger compartment when the vehicle is locked from the outside. This is intended to prevent a thief from breaking into the trunk.
