Sunroof / Moonroof: Service and Repair

Removal and Installation:

Special Tools:

Centering bolts (2 each)

Steel Tilting/Sliding Roof:

Figure 1a:

- Remove headliner on tilting/sliding roof. Service and Repair
- Unscrew nuts and bolts (Fig. 1a) and remove tilting/sliding roof panel.

Figure 2a:

Insert centering bolt (shop-made) into centering hole (Fig. 2a).

Figure 3a:

- Fix angled bracket retainer (figure 3a) using special tool, part no.140 589 04 21 00.
- Remove interior rear view mirror.
- Position tilting/sliding roof panel loosely, install nuts and bolts.

Figure 4a:

- Pretension tilting/sliding roof panel (Fig. 4a) up to markings for mounting brackets with special tool, part number 124 589 00 37 00, tighten nuts and bolts, remove special tool and centering bolt.
- Check gap on tilting/sliding roof panel.

Gap dimension at front = 0.15 mm
Gap dimension at sides and rear = 0.30 mm

- Continue to reinstall in opposite order.

Glass Tilting/Sliding Roof:
Move tilting/sliding roof move to raised position.

Figure 1b:

Remove surround (figure 1b).

NOTE: First unhook surround in the corners using plastic wedge, then remove downwards.

Figure 2b:

Figure 3b:

Detach rubber bellows (figure 2b).
Unscrew nuts (3) and remove tilting/sliding roof panel.

Figure 2a:

Insert centering pins (shop-made) into centering hole (figure 4b).

Figure 3a:

- Fix angled bracket retainer (figure 5) using special tool, part no. 140 589 04 21 00.
- Remove interior rear view mirror.
- Install tilting/sliding roof panel and attach nuts loosely.

Figure 6:

- Pretension tilting/sliding roof panel using special tool (figure 6), part no. 140 589 00 37 00, tighten nuts, remove special tool and centering pins.
- Check gap dimensions inn the same way as on steel tilting/sliding roof (above).
- Further installation: in opposite order.
