Air Door: Description and Operation
CONTROL OF AIR FLAPS AND AIR DUCT:- The control of the air flaps is influenced by the heat exchanger temperature sensors (B10/2, B10/3).
Table - Control Of The Air Flaps:
- The mode change only occurs on the function selections "AUTO" or "EC". The mode change is the change-over of the air flap during the transition from heating to cooling and from cooling to heating. During this process several air flaps open and thus there is a smooth transition.
Fresh Air/Recirculating Air Switch (S24/2):
CONTROL OF FRESH AIR/RECIRCULATING AIR FLAP:
- Manually via the fresh air/circulating air switch (S24/2, 100% recirculating air).
- Automatically by the control unit for automatic climate control (80% or 100% circulating air).
FUNCTION OF RECIRCULATING AIR MODE:
- Manual recirculating air mode (100% for unpleasant odors).
- With the functions selection "AUTO" for an outside temperature above 7°C, provided the refrigerant compressor still cuts in, the recirculating air flap again switches to fresh air or automatic mode after 20 minutes when the fresh air/circulating air switch is operated. If the outside temperature is below 7°C and the compressor no longer cuts in or in the function selection "EC" the system changes over to fresh air or automatic mode after 5 minutes. This sequence is repeated when the fresh air/recirculating air switch is operated again.
- If the fresh air/recirculating air switch or the ignition is switched off or the function selection "DEFROST" is pressed, the main air flap moves into the fresh air position.
AUTOMATIC RECIRCULATING AIR MODE (TO IMPROVE THE COOLING PERFORMANCE):
- The automatic recirculating air mode is dependent on the interior compartment temperature (interior air temperature sensor B10/4) and on the temperature difference of the temperature set on the temperature selector to outside temperature (outside air temperature sensor B10/5).
Table - Control Of Recirculating Air Flap:
- This means that the higher the interior compartment temperature or the greater the temperature difference, the earlier the system switches to recirculating air mode.
- Operating with 100% recirculating air is limited to 20 minutes in cooling mode and 5 minutes in heating mode. the system then changes to 80% recirculating air irrespective of the temperature difference.
- If the "blue" temperature selectors are engaged (display shows "LO") and the outside temperature is above 20°C, the system switches to 100% recirculating air for 20 minutes (LED in the recirculating air button does not light up). The system changes to 80% recirculating air after 20 minutes.
CONTROL OF THE EXHAUST AIR FLAP:
- The function of the exhaust air flap depends on:
- The temperature set on the temperature selector in relation to the interior compartment temperature.
- Outside temperature.
- The higher the outside temperature, the sooner the exhaust air flap is operated, irrespective of recirculating air mode.
