E) R & R Mirror Fold Back Drive Motor

E. ALL MODEL 140, REPLACEMENT OF EXTERIOR MIRROR FOLD BACK DRIVE MOTOR As of May 1992 production, a revised mirror fold back drive motor is installed.

On vehicles manufactured prior to production phase-in, the new mirror drive should be installed unless the new mirror drive was already previously installed. Check the vehicle history to determine if the mirror assembly or the mirror drive motor were replaced after June 30, 1992. If so, do not continue. If these components were replaced on an earlier date or were never replaced, continue with the procedure in this bulletin.





1. Using plastic wedge, press off cover, (1, Figure 13) and remove insulation.

2. Disconnect electrical connector with green and yellow wires (arrows marked "C", Figure 13).

IMPORTANT NOTE:

To determine if a new mirror drive has already been installed in an earlier version mirror housing, check if pin 6 (green wire) and pin 7 (yellow wire) in the mirror drive connector





(Figure 14) are silver colored instead of gold colored. The old version mirror drive had gold colored pins. If pins are silver colored, do not continue with disassembly. Reconnect connectors and install cover (1, Figure 13). If pins are gold, disconnect second electrical connector and continue with procedure.





3. Pivot outside mirror slightly toward rear (1, Figure 15) and pull off cover.

With mirror in normal position, disengage tabs using small screwdriver and pull trim panel off (2, Figure 15).

5. Pull off frame (3, Figure 15).

6. Remove screws (arrows marked Figure 13) and remove mirror assembly.

7. Disengage cap (4, Figure 15) and remove it over the mirror housing (5).

8. Disassemble electrical connector and fold mirror together.





9. Press off retaining clip (1, Figure 16) and remove shaft.

10. Remove screws (2, Figure 16).

11. Remove drive motor (3, Figure 16). Then remove screw and cover from drive motor.

12. Installation is in reverse order of removal.

Note:
The Operation Number/Time for checking cannot be applied in addition to the Operation Number for replacement for the same mirror fold back drive motor.

Exterior mirror fold back drive motor - left side. replace (88-3481). Exterior mirror fold back drive motor - right side, replace (88-3483).
