Emission Control Systems: Testing and Inspection
Testing Mercedes-Benz Vehicles on a DynamometerCertain Mercedes Benz models CANNOT be tested on 2-wheel dynamometer.
- All models up to 1990 can be tested on a 2-wheel dynamometer.
- All models from 1990-1992 with ASR or 4MATIC need to be tested on a 4-wheel dynamometer.
- All models from 1993 on need to be tested on a 4 wheel dyno.
- While not all Mercedes can be tested on a 2-wheel dyno, all Mercedes vehicles can be tested on a 4-wheel dyno.
No vehicles with traction control (ASR) should be tested on a 2-wheel dyno regardless of the model year. Do not under any circumstances turn off or disable the traction control system for the purpose of a dynamometer emissions test. No Mercedes vehicle equipped with 4-MATIC can be tested on a 2-wheel dyno.
EPA regulations may allow the testing of vehicles in an unloaded mode on vehicles that would require a 4-wheel dynamometer. This would be done at idle and 2500 rpm. Check current regulations.
