STARTER LOCK.OUT/BACKUP LAMP SWITCH AND WIRING

In case the starter lock-out/backup lamp switch (S16/3) and/or wiring has to be replaced, follow the instructions described in the Work Instructions # 278. This will allow replacement of the wiring harness more quickly, with considerably less vehicle disassembly.

Procedure

1. Disconnect wiring harness at transmission.

2. Replace and adjust starter lock-out/backup lamp switch (see SMS, Automatic transmission 722.3 or 722.5, Job No. 27.130).

3. Remove driver's footwell carpet.

4. Disconnect starter lock-out/backup lamp switch connector (X49/2) and starter lock-out switch/electronic accelerator/cruise control connector ( X50/1), as well as the connector from the kickdown switch (S16/7) (Figure 1).

5. Cut away branch (a) approximately 200 mm (8 inches) from its entry point into the harness (Arrow). Now remove remaining connections for transmission wiring harness (b) from vehicle and discard old harness. (Figure 1).

6. Solder connector pins (part number 016 545 14 28) to the wire ends of the harness (a, Figure 1) remaining with the vehicle.

7. Install male connector housing (1, Figure 2) to cut off branch (a. Figure 1) of old transmission wiring harness, and connect wires as shown in the following table:

8. On the new transmission wiring harness (2), cut away branch (a) approximately 200 mm (8 inches) from its entry point into the harness and discard. Solder connector sockets (part number 003 545 06 26) to wire ends of the transmission wiring harness (2). (Figure 3)

9. Install female connector housing (3, Figure 4) to cut off branch (a, Figure 1) of new transmission wiring harness, and connect wires as shown in the following table:
