Front Suspension
1. Raise and support vehicle, then remove front wheels.
2. Remove lower engine compartment cover.
3. Using special front spring compressor tool 000 589 46 31 00, or equivalent, and special compressor plate tool 140 589 07 63 00, or equivalent, remove front springs.
4. Remove both upper shock absorber mounting nuts.
5. Disconnect plug connections for front axle distributor on left and righthand side on assembly compartments. Remove wiring harnesses by pulling down and out through wheel housings.
6. On models equipped with Adaptive Damping System (ADS), disconnect connector plugs.
7. On all models, remove wheel speed sensors.
8. Loosen torsion bar from torsion bar linkage.
9. Disconnect brake hose from brake line and plug both lines to avoid contamination.
10. Loosen track rod nut, then using special extractor tool 140 589 00 33 00 and thrust piece tool 140 589 00 63 00, or equivalents, press track rod ball joint from steering knuckle.
11. Mark position of eccentric bolts to frame at control arm mounting.
12. Remove eccentric bolts and support control arm.
13. Remove upper control arm and bearing shell from body.
14. Remove front suspension assembly.
15. Reverse procedure to install, noting following:
a. Ensure brake hoses are not twisted during installation.
b. Bleed brake system.
c. Tighten eccentric bolts to specification only with vehicle wheels on ground.
