Removal/Installation of Main Oil Gallery Steel Balls






NOTE: Numbers in parentheses ( ) indicate a component or tool in the associated illustration.

REMOVAL
1. Remove automatic transmission
2. Remove drive plate
3. Remove coolant pump housing, refer to Cooling System.
4. Determine oil leaks, refer to Inspect Rear of Engine For External Oil Leak. Testing and Inspection
5. Knock out steel balls (9, 10)
- Use Locally made tool, bar (08) to knock both steel balls out of crankcase from the rear to the front, refer to Removing Main Oil Gallery Steel Balls. Tools and Equipment

INSTALLATION
- Reverse procedures to install, noting the following:
- Insert steel balls (9, 10) as follows:
Place the steel ball with a little grease onto the insertion drift (07) and knock in as far as the specified stop on the drift (07).

NOTE:
^ Thoroughly clean seats of steel balls in crankcase.
^ Steel balls may be re-used several times provided they are not damaged.
^ If leaks exist, re-position steel balls about 1 mm (size is specified on insertion drift (07)).
^ Always replace damaged steel balls
- After attaching the parts to the engine, check for oil leaks in the area of the steel balls before installing the transmission

- If it is found, when inserting a steel ball, that it does not ensure an adequate seal or if a leakage occurs after the leak tightness run, replace steel ball with a plug, refer to Replaceing Main Oil Gallery Steel Balls With A Plug.
