NOTE: Numbers in parentheses ( ) indicate a component or tool in the associated illustration.

REMOVAL

WARNING: Risk of scalding as a result of hot coolant spraying out
1. Remove radiator (8), refer to Cooling System
- Do not open the cap of the expansion reservoir or radiator unless the coolant temperature is below 90°C.
- Carefully turn cap to the first detent or slowly about 1/2 turn.
- Wear protective clothing.
2. With the drive belt installed, using the belt counter hold tool, loosen Bolts for belt pulley of coolant pump (10), then remove belt and pulley
3. Install locking plate (3) for crankshaft/ring gear, refer to Installing/Removing Crankshaft Retaining Lock. [1][2]Procedures
- Use 6 x 90 mm bolts (4) (supplied) otherwise the threads in the rear end cover will be damaged
4. Remove belt pulley/vibration damper (12)
- Examine contact surface of hub or contact surface at vibration damper for traces of wear.
- Install radial seal in repair position if necessary.
5. Press out radial seal with a screwdriver (20)
- Do not damage crankshaft and mounting hole for radial seal; use a clean cloth as a base.

INSTALLATION
- Install in the reverse order, noting the following:

- Install front crankshaft seal as follows:
1. Deburr edge of mounting bore for the radial seal.
2. Oil sealing lip of the radial seal.

CAUTION:
^ Do not use grease.
^ Grease prevents the oblique webs on the sealing lip transporting back the engine oil.

3. Fit radial seal (20) onto the insertion sleeve (9).
- If a wear groove from the old radial seal exists on the hub of the belt pulley/vibration damper, use an insertion sleeve with a large insertion depth (repair position).

4. Aline woodruff key (8) on the crankshaft.
5. Fit insertion sleeve (9) onto the crankshaft.
- Turn the insertion sleeve to ensure that the groove of the insertion sleeve is alined with the woodruff key (8) in the crankshaft.
6. Draw in insertion sleeve (9) as far as the stop with the central bolt (2) and washer (3)
- The radial seal must be positioned at right angles to the crank journal otherwise proper sealing will not be achieved.
- Tighten the following components as noted:
Central Bolt Of Vibration Damper
1st. Step, Tighten To: 200 Nm
2nd. Step, Turn: 90°
Bolts, Pulley To Vibration Damper: 25 Nm
Bolts, Pulley To Coolant Pump: 10 Nm

WARNING:
^ Risk of accident as a result of vehicle starting off when engine running.
^ Risk of injury as a result of bruises and burns if you insert your hands into engine when it is being started or when it is running.
^ Secure vehicle to prevent it moving off.
^ Wear appropriate work clothes when carrying out work on the vehicle.

- Check for leaks with engine running
