Check and Adjust Front Caster and Camber
LEGEND
CAMBER
+3 mm setting range -20° camber
-3 mm setting range +20° camber
ST+ = Positive Camber
ST- = Negative Camber
LEGEND
CASTER
+3 mm setting range +25° caster
-3 mm setting range -25° caster
NL = caster
INSPECTION
1. Follow sequence of steps for performing alignment
2. Check vehicle level at front axle and rear axle.
3. Check camber, assign table value as follows:
- Measure front axle level and obtain camber value from the table.
- Tolerance ± 20°.
- Max. difference between left and right 20°.
Example: Front axle level (20 mm or 6.5°)
Camber value is (-0.28° ± 20°)
4. Check caster, assign table value as follows:
LEGEND
VA = for front axle level (vertical column)
HA = for rear axle level (horizontal column)
- Using front and rear axle level measurements, obtain the front axle caster value from the table (measured with wheels turned 20°).
- Tolerance ± 30° max.
- Difference between left and right 30°.
Example: Front axle level (20 mm or 6.5) + rear axle level (5 mm or -0.6) = caster value (5°29° ± 30°)
ADJUSTMENT
1. Raise and support vehicle.
WARNING: Risk of injury from being trapped or crushed when working on preloaded springs
2. Clamp front spring (to unload suspension for bolt replacement), refer to Coil Spring, Suspension. Service and Repair
NOTE:
^ Check special tool for damage and operation (visual inspection).
^ Only handle preloaded springs and other preloaded parts with a suitable clamping device.
^ Do not clamp and unclamp damping device with an impact wrench.
3. Install repair bolt (replace control arm bolts with eccentric bolts), refer to Control Arm. Service and Repair
- Screw on nut from repair set (19b) until it abuts. but do not tighten yet so that the rubber mounts of the wishbone can rotate
4. Unclamp front springs
- Lower vehicle and deflect the suspension by pulling and pushing firmly several times
5. Re-check vehicle level at front axle after adjusting the camber and caster.
- The vehicle level must correlate with the dimension established on the initial measurement.
6. Tighten nut from repair set (19b) securely to: 120 Nm.
- The adjusting screw must not be turned after fixing by means of the adjusting washers and is to be steadied when tightening the hexagon nut (do not allow eccentric bolt to turn while tightening).
