IFI Maximum Engine Speed Limitation Task/Design/Function

Design
Model 202 up to 11/94

Model 202 as of 12/94, model 210

Task
Limiting maximum engine speed.

Function
The IFI control module (N3/7) detects engine speed from the IFI/DFI crankshaft position sensor (L5/6) and limits it to about 5400 rpm (no engine load) through the fuel metering control (Y23/1) and the control rod.

Engine speed limiter, as of 12/94 with control module version MSA 15.1
The quantity injected is reduced in the operating states listed opposite in order to protect the engine and the power train:
- Each time the engine is started so long as the clutch pedal has not been depressed
- When the clutch pedal is depressed

Engine speed is limited by the IFI control module. The control module requires the following information for this purpose:
- Engine speed
- Clutch pedal switch (S40/3)

Drive train protection
Engine speed is limited to 3500 rpm at a vehicle speed of < 10 km/h.
