Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor: Description and Operation
Task
- Detecting the position of the accelerator pedal
- Recognizing the CTP
- Supplies signal to the IFI control module (N3/7) or DFI control module (N3/8)
Design
Consists of a resistance rotary potentiometer which is linked to the accelerator pedal by a Bowden cable, and an idling speed contact switch (R25/2s1).
Function
The rotary potentiometer in the IFI/DFI accelerator pedal position sensor (R25/2) converts the mechanical movement carried out by the accelerator pedal through the Bowden cable into an electric signal matching the position of the accelerator pedal
This potentiometer signal is used for the following functions by the IFI control module (N3/7) or DFI control module (N3/8):
- Quantity control
- Exhaust gas recirculation (EGR)
- Regulating pressure control flap
Safety function
The idle speed contact switch (R25/2s1) has the following safety functions:
- Monitoring the position sensor (R25/2)
- If the rotary potentiometer fails, only the idle speed quantity (if idle speed contact switch (R25/2s1) is open) or, if accelerator is depressed, a significantly reduced WOT quantity is released
