Exhaust Gas Recirculation Task/Function

Model 210.020 except (USA)

Model 210.020 (USA)

Task
Reducing the oxides of nitrogen (NOx), the hydrocarbons (HC) and the particulates (PM).

Function
The exhaust gases are recirculated in line with the map stored in the IFI control module (N3/7) as soon as the following criteria are met:
- Coolant temperature between 60 °C and 110 °C
- Battery voltage 11-14 V
- Engine speed < 3500 rpm
- Fuel rack travel < 9 mm

The IFI control module (N3/7) calculates the appropriate quantity of exhaust gases to be recirculated for the particular operating state on the basis of the input signals. The quantity of exhaust gases which are recirculated is set in this way in each operating point so as to achieve the maximum possible reduction of NOx.

Model 210.020 except (USA) : The EGR switchover valve (Y27) is actuated at the ground side and supplies vacuum to the EGR valve, as a result of which this valve is opened.

Model 210.020 (USA) : The EGR vacuum transducer (Y31/3) is actuated at the ground side and regulates the vacuum to the EGR lift sensor (B28/3), as a result of which this is opened.
