Afterglowing Design/Task/Function
Design
Task
- Improving warming-up properties
- Preventing blue exhaust smoke after cold start
- Improving engine running after cold start
- Stabilizing cold starting speed
Function
Afterglowing is performed after the engine is started depending on the coolant temperature. The preglow time relay (N14) receives a signal from the afterglow coolant temperature sensor (B11/8), which determines the afterglow time.
Afterglowing is performed up to a maximum of 180 s at a coolant temperature (T) of < 40 °C (up to 11/94) or < 60 °C (as of 12/94), respectively.
If no signal is received from the afterglow coolant temperature sensor (B11/8), afterglowing is performed for 30 s.
