Preglow System Position/Design/Task

Model 202

Model 210 (USA)

Task
Preheating combustion chamber to achieve the ignition temperature required for the air-fuel mixture.

The combustion chamber preheater is subdivided into:
- Preglow
- Start glow (voltage at terminal 50)
- Afterglow

Safety shutoff
If the engine does not start within 20-25 seconds after ready to start is indicated, the glow current is interrupted by the safety shutoff.

Fault display
A fault in the preglow system is indicated by the preglow indicator lamp (A1e16) not coming on when the key is turned to position "2".

Monitoring
The pencil-type glow plugs (R9) are monitored individually by a microprocessor in the preglow time relay (N14).
In addition, the glow plugs (R9) are monitored with a slight test current when driving.
Failure of one or several glow plugs (R9) is indicated by the preglow indicator lamp (A1e16) coming on for about 1 minute when the engine is running.
