INSTALLATION OF CELLULAR TELEPHONE (CTEL) SYSTEM
Installing transmitter/receiver
1. Unpack contents of installation kit and compare to parts list at end of Work instructions. Read through entire procedure to familiarize yourself with sequence of instructions and parts. Remove Operating Guide from kit and place in Owner's Literature pouch.
2. Disconnect and cover negative battery terminal.
3. Locate slots on driver's side of hatshelf panel, forward of speakers.
4. Insert tabs from main transmitter/receiver bracket into slots.
5. Slide tinnerman nut (speed nut) over hole in hatshelf.
6. Fasten transmitter/receiver bracket foot to hatshelf using 6x10 screw.
6. Mount four adhesive rubber strips to U-shaped transmitter/receiver bracket (Figure 1).
7. Position transmitter/receiver in U-shaped bracket with antenna connector on top.
8. Connect transmitter/receiver bracket assembly to main bracket using T15 screws provided (Figure 2). Ensure that antenna connector is on top.
9. Connect one end of antenna cable to connection on antenna splitter. Route cable behind side panel sheet metal until it exits through the oblong opening near the transmitter/receiver. Secure other end of cable to antenna connection on transmitter/receiver.
10. Locate telephone harness, connect to transmitter/receiver and secure with thumb screws on connector. Secure telephone harness to existing harnesses above transmitter/receiver with cable ties.
Installing handset (HS)
11. Open main armrest compartment. Locate two small knockouts on underside of tray and enlarge with an awl. Close main compartment and open lid to smaller telephone compartment. Remove oblong knockout at rear of compartment.
12. Insert plugs into two holes on topside of cradle. Press plugs in firmly so that they do not interfere with the handset.
13. Open main armrest compartment and fasten cradle from underneath using two M4x15 torx screws. Cradle must be positioned completely forward in compartment.
14. Route handset cable through oblong opening.
15. Open main compartment. Locate cover in rear of compartment. Open cover, connect handset connector to fixed connector. Route coil cord along recess so that it exits on right side opening (Figure 3). Close cover.
Installing microphone
16. Remove rearview mirror.
17. Remove dome lamp assembly (SMS, Electrical System. Job no. AR82.20-0110E).
18. Measure and mark hole locations as per dimensions in illustrations (Figure 4).
19. Using microphone base as a template, carefully punch hole locations "a" and "b" to 4 mm using an awl.
20. Enlarge forward hole (towards windshield) to 6 mm so that the microphone connector can pass through. Pass microphone connector and cable through enlarged opening. Secure microphone base to headliner with 3x10 screw. Fasten back of screw with with speed nut. Pull microphone cable completely through opening. Snap microphone cover to base.
21. Connect one end of pre-amp cable (wrapped in anti-static foam) to microphone cable, the other end to the vehicle cable.
22. Reinstall dome lamp and rearview mirror.
Installing In-dash controller (IDC)
23. Remove shift lever cover (SMS, Body-Assembly Jobs, Job no. AR68.20-2310E).
24. Remove ashtray housing (SMS, Body-Assembly Jobs, Job no. AR68.20.2400E).
25. Remove radio.
26. Remove storage compartment located beneath radio.
27. Locate two vehicle harness connector for IDC, connect cables. Ensure that molex connector is correctly positioned (ie. connector tab goes over connector ridge).
28. Slide IDC into IDC frame opening from behind until it snaps into place.
29. Reinstall IDC/ashtray housing, radio and shift lever cover.
30. Reconnect negative battery terminal.
31. Program telephone.
32. Test function.
Note:
To avoid disconnecting a call when replacing the handset in the cradle, in order to use the hands free speaker, the "Hang-up Off" feature (as described in the Operation Guide) must be enabled.
