Remove Parking Brake Pedal and Bracket
Release parking brake front cable from automatic adjuster under rear seat cushionAR42.20-0520-01B (C17)
1. Remove rear seat base cushion.
2. Remove cover (12i) for parking brake cable automatic adjuster.
3. Preload automatic adjuster by turning locking eccentric pin (g) approx. 1/2 turn clockwise while pressing rearward until eccentric locks into spring clip (d).
Caution
During reassembly, release automatic adjuster by lifting spring clip (d) with screwdriver.
4. Remove tensioning spring (94).
5. Remove cover (93b) of parking brake cable retaining pin.
6. Remove cable retaining pin (93a).

Remove drivers underdash panel

7. Remove cover (1) on air outlet in footwell.
8. Remove screw (2) on hood release handle.
9. Remove underdash panel screws (3, 4, 5).
10. Remove plastic nut (6).
11. Pull underdash panel (7) in direction of arrows.
12. Remove panel (7) downward while releasing three hooks (8) from center console.
13. Guide hood release handle through panel opening.
14. Disconnect OBD connector. Slide connector outer housing from left to right to release locking pins.

15. Remove door entrance sill cover (1) from retaining clips by lifting upward.
15. Pull door opening edge cover (2) from A-pillar to expose underdash panel area.
17. Turn screw (3) 90° and remove.
18. Remove air inlet cover (4).
19. Unscrew fastener (5).
20. Remove hood release handle mounting screw (6).
21. Remove hood release handle (7) and disconnect hood release cable (8).
22. Remove handle for manual steering column adjustment (93) by carefully pulling (if equipped).
23. Remove mounting screw for steering column adjustment control (93).
24. Remove mounting screws (9, 10).
25. Use small wedge to release underdash panel mounting eyelet (arrow) from spring clip (located at underdash panel upper edge, positioned immediately forward of turn signal switch).
Caution
Use caution to not break underdash panel mounting eyelet.
26. Disconnect OBD connector. Slide connector outer housing from left to right to release locking pins.
27. Remove underdash panel (13).

Remove left kick panel

28. Remove door entrance sill cover (2) from three retaining clips (7) by lifting upward (Model 210).
29. Pull door opening edge cover (1) in lower area of A-pillar to expose edge of kick panel (Model 210).
30. Remove cover (3) and screw (4).
31. Release kick panel from two clips (6) on A-pillar.
32. Remove kick panel (5) by pulling rearward.

Remove parking brake pedal assembly

33. Remove parking brake cable (85) from parking brake pedal bracket (71) by compressing plastic clamping ring (84).
Caution Special tool (043) has been developed for this purpose (illustration inset), tool no.129 589 11 63 00.
> Special tool (043) is on order at MBAG. No stock is in MBNA PDC inventory at this time. Tool will be available in the future.
> Use caution to not break plastic clamping ring (84), part no.124 427 00 92, during disassembly.
> Using regular hand tools (ie: small screwdriver, etc.) carefully release plastic clamping ring tangs by one of the following suggested techniques:
^ Pull cable and clamping ring through bracket opening by pressing lower tangs inward.
^ Remove clamping ring upwards off of cable (85) by lifting upper tangs of clamping ring (84). This method additionally requires removal of rubber sleeve (856).
34. Locate and cut wiring loom plastic tie-wrap positioned above parking brake assembly.
35. Remove plastic covering of parking brake bracket by releasing three tabs (front, rear, top).
36. Remove two mounting screws (72) of pedal bracket (71).
Tightening torque: 12 Nm
37. Disconnect parking brake switch connector (S12) and remove switch from bracket.
38. Disconnect parking brake release cable (79) from release handle (77).
39. Remove parking brake pedal assembly.
Disassembly of Parking Brake Pedal Assembly and Removal of Friction Device Protective Coating

40. Remove circlip (5).
41. Remove spacer (8).
42. Press and hold release eccentric (7) by hand in release direction to expand flat spiral spring (2). Remove pedal (75) from bracket (71).

Clean protective coating from parking brake pedal drum and flat spiral spring GF42.20-1000A (H7)
43. Clean surface of drum (1) of parking brake pedal (75) with clean solvent.
44. Thoroughly clean all protective coating from flat spiral spring (2) with clean solvent.
Caution
Carefully lift coils of flat spiral spring to permit cleaning inner spring surfaces.
45. Blow dry solvent from all surfaces using compressed air.
46. Spray drum (1) and flat spiral spring (2) with evaporative spray cleaner, eg: electrical contact cleaner or brake parts cleaner.
47. Blow dry using compressed air.
48. Ensure angled end of flat spiral spring (2) is correctly engaged in release eccentric (7).
49. Reassemble parking brake pedal assembly.
Caution
PARKING BRAKE PEDAL DRUM AND FLAT SPIRAL SPRING ARE REASSEMBLED DRY, WITHOUT LUBRICANT

Reinstall parking brake pedal bracket, completely reassemble vehicle
50. Reassemble in reverse order.
51. Verify correct function of parking brake and parking brake release friction device. Apply and release parking brake approx. three times to set automatic parking brake cable equalization.
52. Identify completed repair procedure. Place a black colored paint dot on side of parking brake pedal in a location that is easily visible (refer back to illustration)
