Central Locking Function Description

Interlinkage of components
Model 170

The car can be locked and unlocked centrally with the infrared remote control or with the CL interior switch (S6/1s2) in the center console.

With the CL interior switch (S6/1s2) it is only possible to lock the vehicle when the front doors are closed.

If the car is locked with the CL interior switch (S6/1s2) and one of the front doors is opened, the vehicle is unlocked.

If the car has been locked with the infrared remote control, it is not possible to unlock it with the CL interior switch (S6/1s2).

If the vehicle is locked with the infrared remote control and one of the doors is then opened from the inside, the other doors, the trunk lid and tank flap remain locked.

Closing side windows (and tilting/sliding roof, model 210 only)
Continue to hold button down after locking. After approx. 2s the side windows and tilting/sliding roof start to close. The range of the remote control for this function is less than for the locking and unlocking functions for safety reasons.

Injury hazard!
During the closing operation ensure that no one is injured by pinching.

In the event of a hazard release the button - the closing operation is interrupted immediately.

Press button again and hold down - the side windows and tilting/sliding roof open again.

The tilting/sliding roof opens again only when it was not completely closed previously.

NOTE: If the side windows and tilting/sliding roof cannot be closed with the infrared remote control, it is either necessary to change the battery or synchronize the system.

Function description:
The central locking and unlocking function is activated when the central locking interior switch (S6/1s2) is pressed. The switch must have been in the non-actuated position previously.
The multi-function control module (N10-1 or N10-3) sends a status message containing the information "CL interior switch" (S6/1s2) lock or unlock to the PSE control module (A37).

If the CL interior switch (S6/1s2) is pressed for longer than 25 s, it is disabled.
It is reenabled only after it has returned to the non-actuated position.

Control
The control leads from the IR DAS control module (N54/1) as well as the CL interior switch (S6/1s2) are connected to the multi- function control module (N10-1 or N10-3). The control signals such as lock, unlock central locking" are sent from the multi-function control module (N10-1 or N10-3) to the PSE control module (A37) via the CAN data bus.

The PSE control module (A37) then supplies the pressure or vacuum required for the operation in question. Control of the operating pressure for the PSE control module (A37) for the multi-contour backrest (MCS, model 210 only) for the manifold vacuum assist (MVA, model 210 only) is accomplished exclusively via the pressure switch in the PSE control module (A37) as soon as the signal ignition on" is received from the multi-function control module (in N10-1) via the CAN data bus.

Additional components in PSE control module (A37):
- Rear window defroster relay
- ATA control module

NOTE: Pneumatic or electric faults in the CL, RTR, RHR, MVA and MCS systems are recognized by the PSE control module (A37) and stored in the DTC memory of the multi-function control module (N10-1 or N10-3).

The DTC memory can be read out and erased only with the hand-held tester (HHT).

(For testing, Testing and Inspection)

CAUTION : If the DTC memory in the PSE control module (A37) is erased with the hand-held tester (HHT), the DTC memory for the convenience feature (CF) and multi-function control module (MFC) (N10) are erased automatically.

NOTE: After replacing the PSE control module (A37) it is always necessary to erase the PSE DTC memory in the multi-function control module (N10-1 or N10-3).
