Differential Gears and Ring Gear Carrier
1. Install differential side gears (17) with thrust washers (18) and differential bevel gears (151 with spherical washers (14) as follows:
a. Insert assembly mandrel tool No. 116 589 18 61 00 (046),or equivalent, in bores of the differential housing
b. Mount both differential side gears (17) with thrust washers (18) on the assembly mandrels in the differential housing
c. Install both differential bevel gears (15) with spherical washers (14) together and precisely aligned in the differential housing, then turn in using assembly mandrel (046)
d. Install the assembly mandrel tool No. 126 589 02 15 00 (021), or equivalent, into the differential bevel gears (15) and spherical washers through the differential housing
- The assembly mandrel is left in position through the process of checking and adjusting differential friction (turning) torque
2. Using a suitable torque wrench, check the friction (turning) torque of the differential gears as shown in the illustration
- Specifications:
With plastic spherical washers: 40-90 Nm
With steel spherical washers: 5-30 Nm
- If the friction (turning) torque deviates from the specified value, thrust washers of a different thickness must be installed
3. Using the assembly mandrel (021), or equivalent, drive in differential pin (16), noting alignment of roll pin hole with differential case
- Drive in NEW roll pin (19)
4. Un-clamp differential housing (13) from mounting plate (012)
