Removing Oil Contamination From Cooling System






NOTE: Numbers in parentheses ( ) indicate a component or tool in the associated illustration.

DRAINING SYSTEM

WARNING:
^ Risk of scalding as a result of hot coolant spraying out
^ Open cap of expansion reservoir or radiator (2)
^ Do not open the cap of the expansion reservoir or radiator unless the coolant temperature is below 90°C.
^ Carefully turn cap to the first detent or slowly about 1/2 turn.
^ Wear protective clothing.


1. Drain coolant at radiator and crankcase, refer to Draining/Filling Cooling System.
2. Remove coolant thermostat, refer to Replacement. Service and Repair
3. Set heater controls to full capacity switch auxiliary heater (if equipped) to full capacity
4. Fill cooling and heating system with suitable flushing solution (i.e. P3 Neuprotron 5226 manufactured by Hinkel, or equivalent)
Flushing solution with 5% cleaner and 95% water
5. Warm up engine to approx. 80°C by running at moderate revs and hold at this temperature for approx. 5 minutes
6. Switch off engine and allow cooling system to cool down to approx. 50°C
7. Drain flushing solution completely
Pay attention to environmental protection regulations of cleaner manufacturer
8. Fill cooling system with fresh water, warm up by running for approx. 5 minutes and drain again
9. Repeat above step
10. Fill system with suitable coolant, bleed system and check system for leaks
