Rear Impact
Actuation Threshold 1 and 2:
The airbag control module (N2/7) registers high vehicle acceleration/deceleration resulting from the collision. It sends a trigger pulse to the squibs for the driver emergency tensioning retractor (R12/1), front passenger emergency tensioning retractor (R12/2) as well as the left rear emergency tensioning retractor (R12/6) and right rear emergency tensioning retractor (R12/7) (if present).
On vehicles with front passenger seat occupied recognition sensor with automatic child seat recognition (B48) it is determined whether the front passenger seat is occupied.
If the front passenger seat is not occupied the emergency tensioning retractor on the front passenger side is not actuated. This also applies when a child seat with transponder is installed on the front passenger seat, which is recognized by the control module, however, whose values are not programmed.
The emergency tensioning retractors in the rear (if present) are always actuated in the event of a rear end collision regardless of whether the rear seats are occupied.
On USA vehicles only, a seat belt buckle check is made before triggering the emergency tensioning retractors for the driver and passenger seats. If the seat belts are not fastened the driver and passenger emergency tensioning retractors are not activated.
