INSTALLATION OF CELLULAR TELEPHONE (CTEL) SYSTEM
Disconnect and cover negative battery terminal.
A. Installing 3 watt booster and Portable Support Electronics (PSE) module:
1. Unpack contents of installation kit and compare to parts list at end of Work instructions. Read through entire procedure to familiarize yourself with sequence of instructions and parts. Remove Operating Guide from kit and place in Owner's Literature pouch.
2. Locate and route the 25-pole connector, the 2 coaxial antenna connectors and the fiber optic (D2B) cables out of the opening in the left rear trunk liner, near the taillamp assembly (Figure 1).
3. Secure the booster to its mounting plate using 2 M4 machine screws and nuts.
4. Connect the female 25-pole Y connector labeled "PSE" to the Portable Support Electronics module, slide the foam block around the PSE module and fold the cable and tie up using cable straps as shown in Figure 2.
5. Connect male Y-cable to the 25-pole prewire connector and place in the foam block. Connect 25-pole female connector labeled "booster" to 3-watt booster. Do not push through opening. The wires exiting the 25-pole connector must face downward through the opening.
6. Partially place the PSE module with the foam block into opening.
7. Remove protective cap and connect the fiber optic cable to connector receptacle on the side of PSE module. Refer to the fiber optic (D2B) connection diagram in the attached Service Information. The continuity of the optic loop must be maintained.
Note:
This vehicle utilizes two sets of fiber optic cables (D2B) running from the front of the vehicle (behind radio - head unit) to the right and left side of the trunk for installation of CD changer or cellular telephone respectively. For the installation of the CD changer only, the fiber optic (D2B) cables on the right side of the trunk should be used. Respectively, for the installation of the cellular telephone only, the fiber optic (D2B) cables on the left side of the trunk should be used.
If both the CD changer and the phone are installed, a single fiber optic cable on each side is utilized with the aide of an additional fiber optic cable (already installed), which bridges both sides of the trunk and closes the optic loop. For the correct installation refer to the connection diagram in the attached Service Information and perform the fiber optic continuity test using a flash light as described in note 5 in the attached Service Information.
8. Connect coaxial cables to the 3-watt booster, MAKING SURE TO CONNECT CABLE FROM CONSOLE TO INPUT, AND COAX TO VEHICLE ANTENNA TO BOOSTER CONNECTOR LABELED "ANTENNA". The coax to vehicle antenna is terminated in a right angle connector (Figure 3). The cable from the console must receive an SAP to mini-UHF adaptor, included in the kit.
9. Push the Portable Support Electronics (PSE) module into recess. Place the 3-watt booster on the side panel as shown in Figure 3 and drill 2 holes in trunk liner using plate as a template and fasten booster/plate assembly to trunk liner using 2 trim fasteners.
10. Remove the two trim pins from the trunk liner, and install the plastic cover over the recess containing the PSE/and 3-watt booster. Replace the two trim pins, inserting through the two lower holes in the cover. Drill two 8 mm additional holes in the trunk liner, using cover as a template, and install two additional trim pins.
B: Installing handset (HS)
1. Open the center console storage compartment lid, and peel back the carpeting from the front rise of the box (Figure 4).
2. Mount the cradle to the bracket using 4 M4 x 10 screws.
3. Remove the harness access cover (pre-punched) and pull out the prewire harness RJ-45 connector and coax cable. Fold the carpeting back down.
4. Slide the RJ-45 connector into the handset mounting bracket and route the coax cable into the notch in the handset mounting bracket.
5. Insert the tabs of the mounting bracket into the grooves in the front of the storage box, and secure the bracket to the console floor using one (1) M5 x 16 tapping screw.
6. Connect the handset plugs to the prewire connectors (Figure 5).
7. Reconnect battery cable and code radio. Test telephone function. Verify correct version coding using HHT.
