INSTALLATION OF CELLULAR TELEPHONE (CTEL) SYSTEM
Warning:
Disconnect and cover negative battery terminal.
A. Installing 3-watt booster and Portable Support Electronics (PSE) module
1. Unpack contents of installation kit and compare to parts list at end of Work Instructions. Read through entire procedure to familiarize yourself with sequence of instructions and parts. Remove Operating Guide from kit and place in Owner's Literature pouch.
2. Remove the left trunk liner panel, and locate 25-pole connector, fiber optic (D2B) cables, coax cable from front center console and integrated antenna cable (passes through grommet in fender).
3. Secure booster to mounting plate using three (3) M4 x 10 screws and nuts. The 25-pole connector faces the two tabs opposite the mounting foot (Figure 1).
4. Secure the PSE module to the plate using four (4) M4 x 6 machine screws through the plate into threaded inserts in module. The 25-pole connector also faces the two tabs opposite the mounting foot.
5. Connect the 25-pole connector labeled "PSE" to portable electronics module, and 25-pole connector labeled "Booster" to the 3-watt booster.
6. Route integrated antenna cable behind partition panel above wheelwell housing as shown in Figure 2. Connect integrated antenna cable to booster connector labeled "Antenna".
7. Connect coax cable from console to booster connector adjacent to the 25-pole connector, using SAP to mini-UHF adaptor.
DO NOT REVERSE CONNECTIONS IN STEPS 6 and 7.
8. Connect 25-pole pre-wire harness connector to 25-pole pigtail from booster and PSE module.
9. Remove protective caps and connect the fiber optic (D2B) cables to the connector receptacle on the side of the Portable Support Electronics module.
Note:
Refer to notes in the service information and diagram for correct fiber optics connection.
10. Place 4 mm threaded insert into a hole in the hatshelf, using bracket foot to confirm proper location.
11. Set two tabs from mounting bracket into the slots in the left rear of the hatshelf. Secure bracket to hatshelf using M4 x 6 machine screw and washer (Figure 2).
B. Installing portable phone handset (HS)
1. Open main armrest compartment. Locate two small recesses on underside of tray. Using cradle as a template mark and drill 2 (5 mm) holes trough underside of tray 6 mm (1/4") back from the observed recesses. Close main compartment and open lid to smaller telephone compartment. Remove oblong knockout at rear of compartment by striking sharply downward with a hammer handle.
2. Secure cradle using two (2) M4 x 8 screws from bottom into threaded inserts in the cradle.
3. Route coil cord through oblong opening.
5. Open main compartment. Locate cover in rear of compartment. Open cover, connect handset connector to fixed connector. Connect coax cables together. Remove plastic insert covering coax opening and discard. Route coil cord along recess so that it exits on right side opening. Connect coil cord to portable phone (Figure 3). Close cover.
6. Reconnect battery. Program phone and test function. Verify correct version coding and system configuration using HHT.
Note:
To avoid disconnecting a call when replacing the handset in the cradle, iii order to use the hands-free speaker, the "HF Autoswch On" feature (as described in the Operation Guide) must be enabled.
