INSTALLATION OF CELLULAR TELEPHONE (CTEL) SYSTEM

Warning:
Disconnect and cover negative battery terminal.

A. Installing 3-watt booster and Portable Support Electronics (PSE) module

1. Unpack contents of installation kit and compare to parts list at end of Work Instructions. Read through entire procedure to familiarize yourself with sequence of instructions and parts. Remove Operating Guide from kit and place in owner's literature pouch.

2. Remove the left trunk liner panel, and locate 25-pole connector, coax cable from front center console, fiber optic cables and integrated antenna cable (passes through grommet in fender).

3. Secure the Portable Support Electronics (PSE) module to the plate using four (4) M4 x 6 machine screws through the plate into threaded inserts in module. The 25-pole connector faces to the right when installed, and the fiber optics (D2B) connector will be on the top (Figure 1).

4. Secure booster to mounting plate using three (3) M4 x 10 screws and nuts. The 25-pole connector should be on the same side as PSE connector.

5. Connect the 25-pole connector labeled "PSE" to the module, and 25-pole connector labeled Booster' to the 3-watt booster. Secure excess cable to the back of the bracket using supplied adhesive clip (use one clip only).

6. Connect angled coax cable from antenna to booster connector labeled "ANTENNA" - DO NOT REVERSE COAX CONNECTIONS.

7. Configure fiber optics (D2B) loop for cellular telephone (CTEL) installation.

Note:
Refer to diagrams and general notes in the Service Information. If both CD changer and the cellular telephone will be installed a fiber optic loop (ring) must be open at the splice locations and a jumper fiber optics cable from the installation kit must be utilized. The cellular telephone installation must be performed prior to the CD changer installation.

8. Remove protective caps and connect fiber optics (D2B) connector to the receptacle on the Portable Support Electronics control module. When installed D2B connector will be on the top (Figure 1).

9. Connect 25-pole pre-wire harness connector to 25-pole pigtail from booster and PSE module.

10. Set bracket into place on wheel well. The two lower feet mount on two studs on wheel well. The upper stud mounts through a pre punched hole in the hinge reinforcement panel. Place 2 plastic nuts over the studs. Secure upper mount with MS nut. Tighten all three fasteners (Figure 1).

11. Connect coax cable from console to booster connector adjacent to the 25-pole connector, using SAP to mini-UHF adaptor.

DO NOT REVERSE COAX CABLE CONNECTIONS

12. Reinstall trunk liner.

B. Installing 3-watt booster and Portable Support Electronics (PSE) module, model E320S (Station Wagon)

1. Open and remove the right rear compartment panel.

For vehicles with Code 810 (Sound System) only:

2. Remove the three (3) screws securing the CD changer/sound system/cellular telephone bracket. Disconnect the sound system amplifier connector and remove the assembly.

3. Locate the 25-pole harness connector, antenna coax cable from front center armrest and integrated antenna coax cable (passes through grommet in fender).

4. Fasten the PSE module to the bracket using four (4) M4 x 6 machine screws. Fasten booster to bracket using (3) M4 x 10 screws and nuts.

5. Connect the 25-pole connector labeled "PSE" to portable electronics module, and 25-pole connector labeled "Booster" to the 3-watt booster.

6. Connect 25-pole pre wire harness connector to 25-pole pigtail from booster and PSE module.

7. Connect coax cables to booster:

- cable from front center armrest to booster connector next to 25-pole connector, using SAP to mini UHF adaptor.

- cable from integrated antenna to coax connector labeled "Antenna".

DO NOT REVERSE THE CONNECTIONS IN STEP 7.

8. Remove protective caps and connect fiber optic cable (D2B) connector to connector receptacle on the side of the PSE module. When installed D2B connector will be on the top.

Note:
Route fiber optics cables (D2B) carefully between the bracket and the side of the components (Figure 2). Refer to the Service Information for the proper configuration.

9. Reconnect harness connector to sound system amplifier (if disconnected).

10. Reinstall bracket assembly and secure using three (3) screws removed in step 2.

C. Installing portable phone handset (HS)

1. Open main armrest compartment. Locate two small recesses on underside of tray and enlarge using an awl. Close main compartment and open lid to smaller telephone compartment. Remove oblong knockout at rear of compartment by striking sharply downward with a hammer handle. Attach adhesive clip to the left rear side of cradle directly across from the key (when phone rests in the cradle).

2. Secure cradle to armrest using M4 x 10 machine screws and acorn nuts in 2 forward holes. Nuts mount on underside of console.

3. Connect coil cord to portable phone (Figure 3). Secure coil cord to cable clip approximately 2/3 of the way down from the phone. Route coil cord through oblong opening.

4. Open main compartment. Locate cover in rear of compartment. Open cover, connect handset connector to fixed connector. Connect coax cables together. Route coil cord along recess so that it exits on left side opening. Close cover.

5. Reconnect battery. Program phone and test function. Verify correct version coding and system configuration using HHT.

Note:
To avoid disconnecting a call when replacing the handset in the cradle, in order to use the hands-free speaker, the "HF Autoswch On" feature (as described on page 36 in the Operation Guide) must be enabled.
