Function of Windshield Intermittent Wiping

Function sequence
The intermittent wiping function is switched on with the combination switch (S4). The position of the combination switch (S4) is read in by the electronic ignition switch (EIS) control module (N73) and transmitted to the signal acquisition and actuation module (SAM) (N10/1) as a CAN message. If the wiper is already in motion, the wiping operation in progress is completed. Otherwise one wiping operation is started.

For this purpose the signal acquisition and actuation module (SAM) (N10/1) actuates the wiper motor (M6/1) so that wiper operates in speed stage 1. The wiper motor is braked following one wiper operation. Then the intermittent time is started. After expiration of the intermittent time the next wiping operation is accomplished.

Interruption of intermittent time
If another wiper function is requested during the intermittent time, the intermittent time is canceled and the requested wiper function performed. After completion of this function the intermittent time is restarted.

Control of intermittent time
The length of the intermittent time is controlled with SAM. If a rain sensor (B38) is installed the intermittent time is controlled by the rain sensor depending on the quantity of moisture on the windshield.

If a rain sensor is not installed, the intermittent time is set to approx. 5 seconds. This intermittent time is increased by 1.5 seconds by the automatic speed reduction function.
