Transfer Case: Service and Repair

Removing and Installing Transfer Case





1 Unscrew shroud (1) at exhaust bracket
2 Remove exhaust brackets (64) and (64a)
3 Detach exhaust at rear with a V-belt
4 Remove shroud (2) over propeller shaft
5 Unscrew strut (3) on tunnel
6 Unscrew vibration damper (4) at transfer case
7 Unscrew propeller shaft (66) from transfer

Note: Only remove front part of propeller shaft [1][2]Procedures

8 Support automatic transmission and remove engine carrier with rear engine mount (65) 40 Nm

- M8 24 Nm
- M10 40 Nm

9 Unscrew propeller shaft (5) at transfer case 30 Nm and press in bush for wrench socket

Installation: Check radial shaft seals

10 Slightly lower engine transmission unit
11 Unbolt transfer case (6) by unscrewing bolts (6a) (12 ea.) 25 Nm

Note: Oil runs out

Note: Installation: clean sealing surfaces and coat with sealant.

12 Unscrew screw plug (7) and tip out remaining oil 30 Nm

Note: When installing check transmission oil level, correct if necessary, pour in transmission oil up to lower edge of filler hole (7) .85 Liters

13 Install in the reverse order
