Checking Pump Pressure

NOTE: Numbers in parentheses ( ) indicate a component or tool in the associated illustration.

1. On models less Level Control or Adaptive Damping System (ADS), using hand pump tool No 210 589 00 71 00, or equivalent draw off fluid from reservoir of power steering pump.
2. On models with Level Control or ADS, using line clamp tool No. 000 589 40 37 00, or equivalent, pinch off supply line of reservoir
3. On all models, unscrew high pressure stretch hose (30i) on power steering pump

NOTE: The tester must not be connected to the radial piston pump on vehicles with tandem Pump.

4. Connect tester (039) tool No. 124 589 06 21 00, or equivalent, between power steering pump and high pressure stretch hose, using connectors tool No. 210 589 09 63 00, or equivalent
5. On models with Level Control or ADS, remove line clamp tool from supply line of reservoir
6. Fill up reservoir with suitable fluid.

WARNING:
^ Risk of accident due to vehicle starting off automatically when engine is running.
^ Risk of injury due to being trapped and burns if there is interference during the starting operation or when engine is running

7. Start engine.
- Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off automatically.
- Only carry out work on the vehicle wearing suitable clothing.
8. Increase engine speed to 1000 rpm
9. Close gauge test valve and check that maximum operating pressure is: 107-115 bar

NOTE: Only carry out test briefly so that the fluid temperature does not increase unacceptably.

10. Shut engine OFF
11. On models less Level Control or ADS, using hand pump draw off fluid from reservoir of power steering pump.
12. On models with Level Control or ADS, using line clamp pinch off supply line of reservoir
13. On all models, disconnect tester (039)
14. Screw high pressure stretch hose (30i) on power steering pump
15. On models with Level Control or ADS, remove line clamp from supply line of reservoir
16. On all models, fill and bleed power steering pump. Service and Repair
