Function of Torque Converter Lock-Up Clutch Control

FUNCTION
- The purpose of the torque converter lock-up clutch is to reduce the fuel consumption and exhaust emissions of the vehicle by reducing the converter slip. This conflicts with the demands for comfort which are made on the drive train regarding its vibration characteristics. The task of the electronic transmission control is therefore to lock the clutch in all driving situations relevant to fuel consumption and to ensure the isolation of engine vibrations from the drive train.

- The curves presented in the figure show the various operating conditions of the torque converter lock-up clutch (KUB) depending on the accelerator pedal position and transmission output speed, plotted for one transmission gear.

- Apart from this characteristics evaluation, the shift condition of the torque converter lock-up clutch (KUB) is determined by further influencing variables.

- Variables influencing the operating conditions of the torque converter lock-up clutch (KUB)
^ Accelerator pedal movement
^ Ascent, descent
^ Transmission shift functions
^ Transmission fluid temperature
^ Durability requirements
^ Load condition
^ Engine control influences
