On normal telephone calls the call is performed via the telephone antenna.
This antenna can be damaged in the case of an accident (e.g. rollover). This would also make an EMERGENCY CALL impossible. To prevent this in any case an EMERGENCY CALL substitute antenna (A2/50) is installed in addition to the telephone antenna. This antenna is located at a crash-safe location and should only be used if required.
As long as no emergency call is triggered the telephone antenna is always active. In the event of an emergency call, the E-CALL control module (A35/8) checks the signal level of the telephone antenna and the . EMERGENCY CALL substitute antenna (A2/50) Depending on the result the E-CALL control module (A35/8) then switches over to the "better" antenna and transmits the emergency call.
