Inside Rearview Mirror
The interior mirror dims automatically to prevent the driver from being dazzled by the headlamps from vehicles behind. The automatic dimming inside rearview mirror is supplied with power by the overhead panel control module (N70) when circuit 15R on is recognized.
When the overhead panel control module (N70) receives a CAN message "transmission shifted into reverse", or "interior lighting on", it connects the lead "do not dim" to ground and the mirror dimming function is switched off immediately.
Dimming function
A layer of electrolytic gel is located between the reflector and cover glass to provide the dimming function.
One brightness sensor measures the ambient brightness, the other the quantity of light reaching the surface of the mirror. If the quantity of light is greater than the ambient brightness an electrical voltage reduces the translucency of the electrolytic gel. The layer of gel in the outside mirror is actuated parallel to this directly by two discrete leads.
