Evaluation of Airbags and ETR on Vehicles After Accident

After an accident the airbag and emergency tensioning retractor system should be checked for external damage, defects and actuaton. Replace immediately if components are defective or damaged.

It is not permissible to repair defective or damaged components. Always replace components.

It is necessary to replace the ETR control module with airbag (AB) (N2/2) when:
- the housing is deformed or damaged,
- the console is deformed - even when control module is not damaged externally,
- an electrical defect is present and
- after airbag has been triggered three times.

After installing program new ETR control module with airbag (AB) and set parameters.

Replace airbags, side airbags and emergency tensioning retractors when:
- they have fired,
- they are damaged externally - even without firing and
- an electrical defect is present.

If the driver airbag has fired, always replace the steering wheel; if the side airbag has fired replace the side airbag cover in the door liner and if the passenger airbag has fired replace the instrument panel.
