Treatment of battery when laying up vehicle
Removing, Installing
DANGER: Risk of explosion from electrolytic gas. Risk of poisoning and caustic burns from swallowing battery electrolyte. Risk of injury with caustic burns to eyes and skin from battery electrolyte or from handling damaged lead-acid batteries
- No fire, sparks, naked flames or smoking.
- Wear acid-resistant gloves, clothing and eye protection. Pour battery electrolyte only into suitable and appropriately marked containers
1.1 Remove rear seat (model 210.0)
1.2 Fold rear seat cushion forwards and remove battery compartment cover (model 210 T-sedan)
1.3 Flip up trunk luggage cover (model 202 sedan, 208)
1.4 Remove cargo space cover (model 202 station wagon)
1.6 Open engine hood and raise to vertical position (model 163)
1.7 Remove battery cover in right-hand side of trunk (model 129)
2 Check battery
NOTE: Determine findings, if necessary Charge battery
3 Disconnect/connect ground cable on battery
NOTE: Discharge of battery by quiescent current consumers (clock etc.) is prevented.
4 Charge battery
NOTE: Every 4 weeks. On no account leave battery in discharged state otherwise sulfate deposits will form on the plates. Plates with sulfate deposits indicate initial damage to the battery and result in premature failure.
5 Install in the reverse order
