Remove/install Rear Axle Center Assembly







CAUTION: Installation: Replace self-locking nuts and bolts.

1 Detach hydraulic line (HS)

NOTE:
- Removal: Seal threaded opening in ring cylinder and line.
- after installation: Bleed ASD hydraulic system

2 Remove rear axle rpm sensor (L6)
- Vehicles with ABS only

NOTE: Clean magnetic blade, Replace O-ring.

3 Remove left and right rear axle speed sensors (L6/3, L6/4)
4 Remove exhaust system (105) from flange connection
5 Remove exhaust heat shield (105c)
6 Slacken propeller shaft clamping nut (106c)

7 Detach propeller shaft intermediate bearing (106a)

NOTE: Installation. Only tighten the bolts of the propeller shaft intermediate bearing after attaching the flexible coupling to the rear axle center assembly.

8 Detach rear propeller shaft assembly (106) from rear axle center assembly

NOTE:
- Flexible disk remains on propeller shaft.
- Lay driveshaft on reinforcement brace

9 Remove fuel pump assembly cover (140) and detach fuel pump assembly from rubber rings
- Vehicles with gasoline engines

DANGER:
- Risk of death Death may result if vehicle slips or topples from the lifting platform.
- Align vehicle between the columns of the lifting platform and position the four support plates at the lifting platform support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer.

10 Remove rear axle shafts (37) from connecting flange

NOTE:
- Move rear axle shaft so that is roughly horizontal and then push together Secure rear axle shaft at rear axle carrier
- Installation: Replace self-locking polygon head cap screws or hexagon socket screws or Torx bolts and shims
- Lightly oil bolts at thread and bolt head contact surface

11 Support rear axle center assembly (50)
12 Unscrew bolts (50a) and remove stop plate (50b)
13 Remove front center assembly mounting


NOTE: Installation: Attach front center assembly suspension

14 Lower and remove rear axle center assembly (50)
15 Replace breather of rear axle center assembly
16 Install in the reverse order
17 Check rear axle center assembly oil level, top up if necessary
