Front Side Airbag

During a side collision the side airbag protects the chest and head of the driver and/or passenger against injury in the area of the door and B-pillar. The body of the driver and/or passenger is held in place and protected during a side collision by an airbag which inflates in the space between the door and the respective occupant's body within approximately 20 ms.

The protective effect of the side airbag is improved by the windowbag in vehicles that are so equipped.

The side airbag consists of a plastic housing containing the folded airbag, a gas generator filled with a solid propellant and the squib. A planned fracture area is located on the front of the plastic housing for the airbag exit. The electrical connection for the squib is located on the rear of the housing. When the plug is disconnected the squib connector is short circuited automatically by a short-circuiting jumper.
