Pitman Shaft Seal






NOTE: Numbers in parentheses ( ) indicate a component or tool in the associated illustration.

PRELIMINARY
- Measure and note dimension "a" between pitman arm (24) and steering gear (23)

REMOVAL
1. Detach locking ring (23D)
2. Detach pitman arm (24) at the pitman arm shaft
3. Detach locking ring (23o)
4. Press sealing ring (23n) out of the steering housing using a screwdriver

NOTE: Do not damage pitman arm shaft

INSTALLATION
1. Using Driver/Alignment Tool No. 140 589 15 00, or equivalent, press in new sealing ring (23n) up to the stop in the steering gear using an impact drift (091)
- Do not damage sealing lip of radial shaft sealing ring when sliding on over the salines
2. Fit locking ring (23o)
3. Clean oil and grease off spliced section of the pitman arm shaft and pitman arm
4. Push on pitman arm (24) for the dimension "a" (item 1) and attach
- Replace self-locking nut (24a)
5. Fit locking ring (23p)

FINAL CHECKS
- Check, correct power steering fluid level
