Fuel Gauge Sensor, Location/Task/Design/Function
87 Right closing plate
89 Left closing plate
89/1 Lever sensor
89/2 Sliding contact
89/3 Potentiometer
B4/1 Left fuel gage sensor
B4/2 Right fuel gage sensor
Fuel gauge sensor position
A fuel gauge sensor is installed in each chamber of the fuel tank
Fuel gauge sensor task
The fuel gauge sensors determine the fuel level in the chambers of the fuel tank
Fuel gauge sensor design
The fuel gauge sensor (B4/1, B4/2) is a lever sensor with sliding contact (potentiometer)
Fuel gauge sensor function
The resistances of the fuel gauge sensors (B4/1, B4/2), which are connected in series, are evaluated in the electronics of the fuel gauge (formation of mean value).
Low resistance = fuel tank empty
High resistance = fuel tank full
Note: If an open circuit occurs in the wiring, the fuel gage in the instrument cluster indicates empty, the fuel reserve warning lamp (A1e4) does not come on
