Transmitter key
An infrared transmitter with transmitter window (a), a pushbutton for operation (b), a battery compartment (c) with 4 batteries (transmitter key up to 09/93) or 2 batteries (transmitter key as of 10/93) and a folding 2-track key (d) are accommodated in the key head. The key can be folded out by operating pushbutton (e).
If a transmitter key is lost, this can be ordered via the usual channels by stating the locking mechanism number.
Up to 8 transmitters can be adapted to a locking mechanism by the manufacturer. The folding key in the transmitter is replaceable.
If the transmitter button (b) is operated continuously, the transmitter switches off after approx. 30 s in order to prevent the batteries discharging.
As of 10/93, the volume of the transmitter key was reduced by approx. 40%. It is not possible to fit the mechanical key shank of a transmitter key up to 09/93 in a transmitter key as of 10/93.
Spare infrared key and auxiliary key function
As of 05/95 the customer receives a spare infrared key in addition to his two infrared transmitter keys (except (USA) (J)). With the introduction of this spare infrared key, the spare batteries for the infrared transmitter key, enclosed in the car document pocket as of the introduction of the stage 2 drive authorization system, are no longer required. The spare infrared key can also be obtained from the Germersheim CSD for older vehicles with infrared remote central locking.
The spare key (2) is the size of a cheque card. The central locking and the ATA can be operated with the spare key. The drive authorization system can also be activated or deactivated via the infrared transmitter signal. The convenience feature cannot be operated. An infrared transmitter, a pushbutton (b) for operating, a light-emitting diode (a) to check the batteries, a battery compartment with two batteries (the same as in the standard transmitter key) and a manual main key (d) are located in the spare key (2). The infrared beam is emitted when the pushbutton (b) in the center of the front side of the spare key is operated.
Spare keys are identified by a code number (3 in this case) stamped in the back of the key.
The battery compartment lid (c) must be removed from the spare key (2) to change the two batteries (f). To do this, press in the catch (arrow). The same two batteries are used as in the standard infrared transmitter key.
! If necessary, the manual main key (d) can be replaced by a manual auxiliary key. This can be obtained from the Germersheim Central Supply Depot. The lock cylinder on the trunk and glove box cannot be operated with the manual auxiliary key. This means the customer continues to have the usual advantages when staying at a hotel or visiting a workshop.
