Notes on carrying out repairs, body and welding work on vehicles with airbag or ETR units
1 Before performing any
- Body work
- Work on airbags or emergency tensioning retractors (removal, installation)
or
- Work on components connected to the airbags or emergency tensioning retractors or requiring manipulations in their electrical circuits, e.g. removal of steering wheel
remove ignition key.
On models 638, 901, 902, 903, 904 also disconnect the ground lead from the battery and insulate.
2 Before performing any welding work
- Remove ignition key and disconnect ground lead from battery and insulate.
- Disconnect connector from airbag control module with emergency tensioning retractor.
3 When painting
followed by baked drying there are no particular safety precautions to observe.
The airbags and emergency tensioning retractors can withstand temperatures up to a maximum of 100 °C without damage.
4 During repair work
Do not allow airbags or emergency tensioning retractors to come into contact with grease, oil or cleaning agents.
Always replace airbags and emergency tensioning retractors which have fallen from a height greater than 0.5 m and never install such components in a vehicle.
After completion of the work on the airbags and emergency tensioning retractors
always check the supplemental restraint system with the hand-held tester according to the diagnostic literature.
