Guidance

Digitized and non-digitized CD-ROM map area

Digitized CD-ROM map area:
- Vehicle located inside of digitized CD-ROM map area

Non-digitized CD-ROM map area:
[] Vehicle located outside of CD-ROM map boundaries ("OFF MAP", foreign country)
() Vehicle located inside of CD-ROM map boundaries, however outside of digitized map area ("OFF ROAD", company ground, country road, ...)

NOTE: The network of roads is shown highly simplified

Guidance consists of making up and outputting driving recommendations to guide the driver to the desired destination. Prerequisites for guidance include:
- continuous location finding in operation (accomplished automatically),
- destination entered and
- route calculated.

The navigation processor (A40/3n2) continuously compares the data from the route calculation with the data from the continuous location finding operation and derives the measures required for further guidance. Depending on the vehicle location there are two types of guidance (see figure):
- Guidance inside of digitized CD-ROM map area and
- limited guidance outside of digitized CD-ROM map area.
