PREPARATION INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE DISCONNECTION/DEACTIVATION AND RECONNECTION/ACTIVATION OF REAR DOOR MOUNTED AIRBAGS
IMPORTANT:
This procedure can only be performed under the supervision of a Mercedes-Benz USA Technical Specialist. An Authorization to Deactivate/Reactivate a Side Impact Airbag form must be filled out, signed by the client and notarized. The Technical Specialist will provide the form. Please contact Client Assistance at 1-800-367-6372 to initiate the process.
Under no circumstances should the airbags be disconnected/reconnected and the vehicle returned to the client without the Technical Specialist performing the deactivation/reactivation and systems function test.
NOTE:
BOTH rear door airbags MUST be deactivated/reactivated. Never deactivate/reactivate only one rear door airbag.
Procedure
A. DISCONNECT REAR DOOR AIRBAGS
1. Turn ignition switch OFF and remove key.
2. Remove rear door panels refer to WIS AR72.12-P-1010F.
3. Disconnect airbag harness connector (arrow Figure 1) from rear door airbag squib.
4. Cover airbag harness connector with premium quality electrical tape (B, Figure 2) which is resistant to heat (e.g. 3M Scotch 33(R)).
5. Secure airbag harness connector with cable tie (A, Figure 2).
6. Cover airbag squib with premium quality electrical tape (C, Figure 2) which is resistant to heat (e.g. 3M Scotch 33).
7. Reinstall door panel in reverse order of removal.
8. Remove existing (if applicable) Side Impact Airbag Warning Label part no. A211 817 22 20 from each C pillar.
9. Place one label S-2775-L02 on each right and left C pillar in place of label that was removed in above step 8.
10. Place one label 5-2775-L01 directly on outside front cover of the Operator's Manual.
11. Place one label S-2775-L03 on the inside of each right and left quarter window.
B. REPROGRAM RESTRAINT SYSTEM CONTROL MODULE (N2/7)
The reprogramming of module N2/7 cannot be performed by the retailer. The deactivation/reactivation procedure can only be performed by a Mercedes-Benz Technical Specialist.
