Task
Protecting the shift elements of the automatic transmission from excessive thermal stresses during load shifts in the upper engine speed range.

Design/function
Engine torque is reduced by briefly retarding the ignition during gearshift operations. The ME-SFI control module is supplied by the ETC control module (N15/3) with an appropriate signal for this purpose over the CAN data bus.
