Active Service System (ASSYST) Driver Information
This document provides an overview of the driver information possible with the ASSYST as it appears in the multifunction display (A1p13) of the instrument cluster. Unless noted otherwise, the display appears in white characters.
What appears first is driver information on
- service interval, then
- fault and warning messages regarding engine oil and finally
- messages regarding oil level measurement at driver request.
The service (A or B; ein one or two service symbols) also appear together with the majority of displays regarding remaining time or remaining distance.
It is possible to select the language of the display with the "Settings" function at the instrument cluster (A1).
NOTE: More detailed information regarding the multifunction display is given in the function description instrument cluster.
Remaining distance (service A)
This display appears when the service display is retrieved manually, or if the warning threshold is reached.
NOTE: This display does not appear when time servicing is active, which may be the case for vehicles which have a low annual mileage driven.
Remaining distance (service B)
This display appears when the service display is retrieved manually, or if the warning threshold is reached.
NOTE: This display does not appear when time servicing is active, which may be the case for vehicles which have a low annual mileage driven.
Remaining time (The example shows the display for service A)
This display appears in the case of vehicles with a low annual distance driven if the service display has been retrieved manually. or if the warning threshold is reached.
NOTE: What is displayed in the majority of cases is the remaining distance.
Service interval elapsed (remaining distance or remaining time elapsed)
This display appears as soon as the service interval has elapsed. The remaining distance or remaining time is 0 km or 0 days. These figures are not displayed, however.
NOTE: If the service interval is exceeded by more than 100 km or 1 day, this display is replaced by the following displays.
Service interval (distance) exceeded (remaining distance exceeded)
The display appears as soon as the service interval (remaining distance) has been exceeded by more than 100 km
NOTE: This display appears only if time servicing (remaining time) is active, which may be the case for vehicles with a low annual distance driven.
Service interval (time) exceeded (remaining time exceeded)
This display appears as soon as the service interval (remaining time) has been exceeded by more than one day.
NOTE: The display appears only if time servicing (remaining time) is active, which may be the case for vehicles with a low annual distance driven.
Driver information regarding engine oil
In the case of the driver information regarding engine oil a distinction must be made between warning messages (e.g. oil level too low) and messages regarding oil level measurement at driver request.
Engine oil warning messages:
Oil level too low, danger for engine
This message appears in red characters when the oil level has dropped to a level which could damage the engine.
Minimum engine oil level reached
This message appears if the oil level has reached the minimum mark.
Engine oil level too high
This message appears when there is too much oil in the engine.
Engine oil level or engine oil condition has decreased to a critical level
This message appears when
- the oil level has dropped to a critical level or
- the oil condition has deteriorated, e.g. through absorption of water.
Oil measuring system faulty
This message appears if a fault exists in the oil measuring system (e.g. faulty oil sensor (oil level, temperature and quality, B40).
Messages on oil level measurement at driver request
Note: "Switch ignition on"
This note is displayed when the oil level is retrieved but the ignition has not yet been switched on.
Note: "Not with engine running"
This note is displayed when the oil level is retrieved and the engine is running as it is not possible to measure the oil level in the operating state.
Note: "For measurement car must be level"
This note always appears when the oil level is retrieved.
Correct measurement of the oil level is only possible when the vehicle is parked on a level surface. The driver is reminded of this by the display.
Note: "Measurement not possible now"
This display appears when the oil level is retrieved but the waiting time after switching off the engine has not been maintained. The waiting time can be up to 30 minutes when the engine is cold.
Quantity of oil to be added
This message appears when the oil level is retrieved after the measurement has been completed and it is necessary to add oil.
The following quantities may be displayed:
1.0, 1.5, 2.0 liters or quarts.
Oil quantity okay
This message is displayed when the oil level is retrieved and the measurement indicates that the oil level is okay.
