Assesment of Airbag and Belt Tensioner In Accident Vehicles
Following an accident:
- The airbag and emergency tensioning retractor restraint system is to be checked for visual damage, defects and if it has been triggered
- Detective or damaged components must be immediately replaced. Repair of these component is not permitted
The emergency tensioning retractor with airbag control unit must be replaced:
- If the housing is deformed or otherwise damaged
- If the console has been deformed, even if the emergency tensioning retractor control unit with airbag does not appear to have suffered any damage
- If there is an electrical defect
- Or after the airbag has deployed three times
Note: A new emergency tensioning retractor with airbag control unit must be programmed and parameterized after installation.
The airbag or emergency tensioning retractor units must be replaced:
- Following deployment
- If there is any visual damage (even if the unit has not deployed)
- Or if there is an electrical defect
Following deployment of the driver airbag, the steering wheel must always be replaced; after the sidebag has deployed, the sidebag cover in the door lining must be replaced and after deployment of the front passenger airbag, the instrument panel must be replaced, otherwise it cannot be ensured than the airbags will properly function.
