Vehicles With ESP

Task
The lateral acceleration sensor informs the Electronic Stability Program (ESP) control module (N47-5) about the lateral acceleration force, occurring when cornering

Design
Sensor as per the spring-mass principle

Function
An electronic module (a) for recording signals is located in the acceleration sensor (B24/2). The measuring principle of the lateral acceleration sensor is based on a spring/mass system. A Hall sensor (b) is integrated in the electronic module. A spring/mass element (d, c) is located above it. The deflection of the spring/mass element above the Hall sensor (b) to the left or right results in formation of the signal.

The lateral acceleration occurring when cornering acts functionally as follows. The lateral forces deflect the spring/mass element (magnet) out of the rest position into another position.

This position changes the position relative to the Hall sensor element and therefore changes the voltage signal.
