Cassette Mode, Function

Block diagram of COMAND system cassette mode illustrated with the following equipment:

- Sound system (code 810)

The compact cassette (CC) player is integrated into the COMAND operating, display and control module (A40/3). It is activated when a cassette is inserted and the "TAPE" button is pressed. The CC audio signals are amplified by A40/3 and output directly on the vehicle loudspeakers. If the vehicle is also equipped with sound system (code 810) the audio signals are transferred on the digital data bus (D2B), amplified by the sound amplifier (A2/13) and then output on the vehicle loudspeakers (see figure).

The COMAND cassette system features:
- Auto reverse drive

- Fast forward and rewind

- Dolby B
Noise suppression for cassettes recorded using Dolby B process.

- CPS
Cassette program search, title jump and repeat function (MTL music title search). When the repeat function is activated the abbreviation "WDH" appears on the display.

- SCAN
Each title is played for approx. 8 seconds and the tape is then automatically wound to the next table in fast forward. If the next title is not recognized, the tape is wound to the end.

- BLANK-SKIP
When the drive does not recognize a sound signal on the cassette for longer than 15 s it automatically winds the tape in fast forward to the next title. If a next title is not recognized, the tape is wound to the end. When this feature is activated the abbreviation "SB" appears on the display.

For the CPS, SCAN and Blank-SKIP features is it necessary for:
- the titles to be separated by sufficiently long pauses (pause > approx. 3s)
- the noise level during the pause to be low
- the start and end of a title to be clearly recognizable.

NOTE: Cassettes with a playing time of 120 min. cannot be used.
