General Information
Instrument Cluster Shown For Bulb Test:
General
The instrument cluster (A1) is used:
- to give information on the important operating conditions of the vehicle (e.g. vehicle speed, fuel level, etc.),
- to warn of critical operating conditions,
- to display different systems (e.g. audio, trip computer, etc.)
- as a processor and display for the "Active Service System" (ASSYST)
- as a trip computer
In addition the instrument cluster (A1) has the multifunction display (A1p13), various display instrument, malfunction indicator/warning lamps and an acoustic transmitter.
In addition, various signals (e.g. "vehicle speed", "Circuit 58d") are generated in the instrument cluster (A1) and passed on to the CAN engine compartment and/or CAN interior.
Virtually all the information required (except for the signal for the airbag indicator and warning lamp (A1e15) is passed on to the instrument cluster (A1) from the various control modules via the CAN engine compartment or the CAN interior. Therefore only a few cables are needed to connect to the rest of the vehicle; the instrument cluster (A1) therefore only has one connector.
The instrument cluster has a microprocessor to process the incoming data. The program required and the necessary data are stored in an electronic memory chip.
It is operated by the system select and voice control system pushbutton (S110s3), the scroll forward/scroll back pushbuttons (S110s1) of the multifunction steering wheel and by both pushbuttons on the instrument cluster (A1).
NOTE: Diagnosis is via the STAR diagnosis tool.
