DISASSEMBLY
1. Remove snap ring (134a)
2. Take multiple-disc pack B2 (134) and disc spring (134b) out of outer multiple-disc carrier B2
- The outer multiple-disc carrier for the multi-disc brake B2 is the piston for the multiple-disc brake B3 at the same time.
- Check multiple-discs for burnt spots and wear.
3. Place assembly device (074) tool No. 140 589 13 43 00, or equivalent, on disc spring (29) and tension until the groove for the snap ring is exposed (figure C)
4. Remove snap ring (31)
5. Remove spring plate (30) and disc spring (29)
6. Separate piston guide ring (28) and piston multi-disc brake B2 (27) from piston B3 (14a) by blowing compressed air into the bore (D) (figure E).
7. Press piston guide ring (28) out of piston B2 (27)
8. Separate piston guide (32) from piston B3 (14a) by blowing compressed air into the bore (A) (figure E)
ASSEMBLY
1. Assemble piston guide (32) and piston B3 (14a) in the correct position as follows:
a. Insert piston guide (32) in transmission housing (2) and tighten securely
b. Press in the outer multiple-disc carrier/B2 (14a) up to the stop in the piston guide
- The recess in the external splines or the opening in the outer multiple-disc carrier/B2 (14a) must point downward (arrow)
c. Remove assembled component from transmission housing again for further assembly work
2. Insert piston multiple disc brake B2 (27) in piston B3 (14a)
- Check all sealing rings, replace if necessary.
- The rounded off edges on the sealing rings (14c), (28a) and (28b) must point outwards
- The rounded off edges on the sealing ring (14d) must point inwards (figure B)
3. Insert piston guide ring (28)
- The valve (137) in the piston guide ring must be on top (figure D)
4. Insert disc spring (29) and spring plate (30)
- Insert disc spring with the curvature towards the spring plate
5. Place assembly device (074) on disc spring (29) and tension until the groove for the snap ring is exposed
6. Insert snap ring (31)
7. Insert disc spring (134b), multiple-disc pack (134) and snap ring (134a) in the outer multiple-disc carrier B2 and measure as follows:
a. Refer to survey of multiply disc components to locate correct number of discs for this application. Application and ID
b. Observe outer multiple-disc sequence of installation, then procedures as follows:
c. Place discs for multiple-disc Brake B2 together in the sequence shown in the illustration above
d. Using a feeler gauge, determine the play "L" at three points between the snap ring (144a) and the outer disc (134a)
- During the measurement the snap ring (144a) must contact the upper bearing surface of the groove in the disc carrier
Adjustment Values Multiple Disc Brake B2
Number Of Discs: 4
Clearance Dimension "L": 0.20-1.30 mm
Number Of Discs: 5
Clearance Dimension "L": 0.20-1.40 mm
e. Using the table above determine the correct clearance based on the number of discs installed.
f. Adjust clearance "L" using a snap ring of the correct thickness
- Snap rings are available in thicknesses of2.90, 3.20, 3.50, 3.80 and 4.10 mm
