Multiple Disc Clutch

LOCATION
- With the planetary gear sets in the transmission housing three multiple-disc clutches are arranged as the front, center and rear multiple-disc clutch K1, K2 and K3.

TASK
- To make a frictional connection between two components of a planetary gear set or one component of two planetary gear sets to transmit the drive torque.

DESIGN
- A multiple-disc clutch consists of several inner multiple-discs (10) on an inner multiple-disc carrier and outer multiple-discs (9) on an outer multiple-disc carrier.

FUNCTION
- If oil pressure is applied to the piston (K1a) at the multiple-disc brake K1, this presses together the inner and outer multiple-discs of the multiple-disc pack.

- The sun gear (V1) is connected to the planet carrier (V3) via the outer multiple-disc carrier (K1b) and inner multiple-disc carrier (K 1c). The front planetary gear set is therefore locked and rotates as a closed unit. If the multiple-disc clutch K2 is engaged via the piston (K2a), this presses the multiple-disc pack together. The internally-geared wheel (V4) of the front planetary gear set is connected to the internally-geared wheel (M4) of the center planetary gear set via the outer multiple-disc carrier (K2b) and center planet carrier (M3) on which the inner-multiple discs rest. The internally-geared wheel (V4) and internally-geared wheel tM4) move at the same speed as the input shaft (1).

- If the multiple-disc clutch K3 is engaged via the piston (K3al, this presses the multiple-disc pack tog Ether. The sun gear (M1) of the center planetary gear set is connected to sun gear (H1) of the rear planetary gear set via the outer multiple-disc carrier (K3b) and inner multiple-disc carrier (K3c). the sun gear (M1) and sun gear (H1) move at the same speed.
