91-151 Checking Front Seat Frame Following Accident
NOTE: If clearance ≥ 1.5 mm is present between the check gauge and backrest strut or ≥ 1.0 mm between the steel right angle and reinforcement rib on the seat frame, replace the seat frame together with the seat rails and adjustment gears.
Special Tools:
Commercially Available Tools:
Checking
1 Position check gauge on backrest strut and check contour.
2 Measure clearance between check gauge and backrest strut in upper area (arrow).
3 If clearance is ≥ 1.5 mm - observe note.
4 Remove covering on cable duct.
5 Position steel right angle on reinforcement rib of seat frame.
6 If clearance is ≥ 1.0 mm - observe note.
7 Check function of backrest lock.
NOTE: When the backrest is tilted back the backrest locks should catch simultaneously and completely.
8 Check microswitches on backrest lock (see Diagnosis Manual, Body, Volume 1).
9 Check or measure backrest play at top of backrest strut - nominal value ≤ 18 mm.
10 Check function of automatic locking system by moving the backrest all the way down. Then release backrest and tilt forward.
11 Move seat forward/backward adjustment to rear against stop.
12 Fold down backrest, the backrest should be unlocked and in contact with the B-pillar.
13 Switch on ignition and close front door in question. When the backrest locking relay is operating properly the backrest should lock automatically within 3-5 seconds. The seat should not move independently during this locking operation.
NOTE: During the automatic locking operation the loudspeaker integrated into the backrest locking relay provides an intermittent warning tone indicating that the backrest is not locked.
In the event of malfunction, see Diagnosis Manual, Body, Volume 1.
14 Check adjusting gear for easy movement and noise and replace on complaint.
15 Measure current consumption of drive motors (see Diagnosis Manual, Body, Volume 1).
If complaint is received determine cause and eliminate.
16 Check complete adjustment range of seat adjustment and perform general function check.
Complete adjustment range:
(measured on gear spindle)
Seat forward/backward adjustment = 225 mm
Seat height adjustment - front = 42 mm
Seat height adjustment - rear = 52 mm
Backrest adjustment = 50 mm
