Guide Rails In Cylinder Heads

PRECEDING WORK
Front covers removed.

PROCEDURES





Crankshaft:
Rotate to 300 after ignition TDC at cylinder 1 (step 1).
Camshaft sprockets:
Mark relative to timing chain (step 2).
Chain tensioner (1):
Remove, install.
Flight exhaust camshaft sprocket:
Unscrew, screw on (step 4).
Flight intake camshaft (8):
Rotate with wrench 104 589 01 01 00, slacken timing chain, tension (step 5).
Flight guide rail (4):
Remove, install (step 6).
Left intake camshaft (9):
Rotate with wrench 104 589 01 01 00, slacken timing chain, tension (step 7).
Left guide rail (6):
Remove, install (step 8).

NOTE





Take off right cylinder head cover and right front cover in order to remove the right guide rail.

REMOVING AND INSTALLING





1 Rotate crankshaft to 30° after ignition TDC at cylinder 1.

Note
In this position the camshafts can be rotated without the valves coming into contact with the piston crown.





2 Mark all four camshaft sprockets and the timing chain with dots of paint (arrows).
3 Remove chain tensioner.
4 Unscrew right guide rail (4): unscrew right exhaust camshaft sprocket (5), remove.

Installation Note





Install exhaust camshaft sprocket (5) with timing chain fitted, pay attention to colored marking and to tightening torque.





5 Right guide rail (4): rotate right intake camshaft (8) in direction of rotation of camshaft with wrench (25) 104 589 01 01 00. Slacken timing chain.
6 Pull fight guide rail (4) off bearing pin, remove.

Installation Note
Fit timing chain onto intake camshaft sprocket (12) (pay attention to colored marking), tension and install guide rail (4).





7 Left guide rail (6): rotate left intake camshaft (9) in direction of rotation of camshaft with wrench (25) 104 589 01 01 00. Slacken timing chain.
8 Pull left guide rail (6) off bearing pin (6a).

Installation Note
Fit timing chain onto intake camshaft sprocket (13) and exhaust camshaft sprocket (3) (pay attention to colored markings), install guide rail (6).
Rotate exhaust and intake camshafts in opposite direction of rotation of camshaft with wrench (25) 104 589 01 01 00. Tension timing chain.
